New York, May 8 – C24 Gallery is pleased to present the works of six gallery artists at PULSE New York Contemporary Art Fair, on view May 9-12, 2013.
New Orleans-based artist Skylar Fein addresses moments of mainstream and sub-cultural history with a punk aesthetic using appropriated imagery and vivid commercial graphics. For PULSE, C24 will present a selection of Fein’s politically fueled small black flag works that reference iconic figures such as George Bataille.
Also on view will be the mesmerizing video work of Ali Kazma, who will represent Turkey at this year’s 55th Venice Biennale. Kazma’s stunning videos raise fundamental questions about the significance of human activity, labor, the
meaning of economy, production, and social organization. He captures repetitive movements and poetic imagery to convey ethical issues of the status of images, their (non)-proliferation, and fundamental questions of energy, time and
New York-based artist Charles Lutz is known for his pop influenced, cynical paintings and sculpture, which confront the status of the contemporary art world and reference the socio-economic issues of a greater cultural landscape. His
large-scale, arresting bank robbery note paintings, executed in vibrant hues will be presented along with other works.
Robert Montgomery is a UK-based artist whose poetic and melancholic work follows a post-situationist tradition. Utilizing public spaces such as billboards, bus stops and building facades, Montgomery creates bold text-based works formed of fragmented phrases and thoughts that often, unexpectedly, capture his viewers and invoke self-reflection and meditation. Two intimately scaled works on paper will be shown at PULSE.
Turkish artist İrfan Önürmen will present new paintings in his signature, cut-fabric collage style. Önürmen’s work unveils the layered relationships and discrepancies between personal and public experience as seen through the lens of the contemporary media.
C24 will also present a video by Katja Loher, who is known for her surreal and otherworldly sculptural videos, and a painting by Mark Dutcher. Dutcher’s recent paintings contain elements of Surrealism and Pop with the use of a lexicon of words and symbols that explore subjects such as transience, personal or ideological loss, and the commemoration of death.
Based in New York, C24 opened its doors in 2011 as a gallery of international contemporary art that focuses on artists from diverse geographies. The gallery is dedicated to identifying and providing a platform for international artists who are often at an early stage of their career or who have already achieved critical acclaim outside of New York.
