New York, NY - C24 Gallery presents The Overview, a body of works by Cheryl Molnar. Rooted in investigating the evolving relationship between natural and constructed environments, the exhibition reflects on how humanity shapes and reshapes the landscapes it occupies.
Drawing from places of personal significance, from Long Island's Gold Coast to the hills of Santa Monica, Molnar reconstructs these environments as layered, utopian worlds. Through this process, she illuminates the tensions between preservation and development, admiration and control. Her constructed landscapes invite viewers to consider how natural beauty is transformed when filtered through human aspiration, nostalgia, and ambition.
Molnar's works reveal how memory is built, not as a singular moment, but as an accumulation of impressions. Through carving, painting, photography, and collage, each composition becomes a convergence of time, place, and emotional recall. The landscapes hover between real and remembered, reflecting both intimate personal histories and broader cultural narratives around land and power. For Molnar these collaged landscapes become meditations on memory, familial connection, and the dynamics of social class and urban development.
Rather than presenting a fixed viewpoint, The Overview opens a space to consider what remains when the places we return to inevitably change.
