Venezuelan-American painter Roxa Smith’s vibrant interiors reflect a profound preoccupation with home and culture, exploring issues of identity, memory, and belonging through the domestic setting. Working in acrylic and gouache, Smith renders colorfully dense, decorative compositions that draw inspiration from Latin American art, Indian miniature painting, Post-Impressionism, and naïve and outsider traditions. Her roots in both North and South America inform her exploration of cultural heritage through the lens of the home, transforming quotidian domestic spaces into celebrations of the mundane. The result is a body of work that feels both deeply familiar and distinctly idiosyncratic.
