ROBERT MONTGOMERY UNVEILS SEAROCK SONGLINES IN AUSTRIA SAALFELDEN LEOGANG
Contemporary Art in the public sphere – Saalfelden Leogang presents Robert Montgomery.
On the 9th of May 2015, the Scottish artist Robert Montgomery, in cooperation with Saalfelden Leogang , unveiled his first public installation in Austria. The artist is now one of the most important contemporary representatives of conceptual art in the field of text and image and is on a par with renowned artists such as Jenny Holzer and Lawrence Weiner. In the post-situationist tradition, Robert Montgomery transforms his poetry into images: burning text sculptures, recycled sunlight installations or minimalist black billboards. His political and melancholic lyrics describe the space surrounding the interpersonal relationships in a highly sensitive way. Site-specific installations penetrate the space to allow both the room and the visitor to become part of the work of art. The poetic interventions by the internationally renowned artist have been exhibited worldwide and are represented in major collections and museums.

“I like the idea that the mountains are in a way almost archetyped in the shape of a city. And it is a funny thing, if you notice when we build cities like New York, we all do them in cliff shapes – I think that is for a reason. I think that we are sworn to mountain shapes as like instinctive areas of protection. And we kind of build our cities as echoes of the forms of mountains.”
So it says:
THE MOUNTAINS MUST HAVE IMAGINED THE CITY
AND THEY DREW IT IN THE SKY FOR
US/ AND THE SEA BIRDS CARRIED MESSAGES
FROM THE WATER TO THE MOUNTAIN BIRDS
