Blouin Artinfo features Hypochondriac

Datebook: Seçkin Pirim at C24 Gallery in New York

C24 Gallery in New York is hosting an exhibition titled “Hypochondriac” by Turkish artist Seçkin Pirim that will be on view through October 29, 2016.

The exhibition is the first solo exhibition by Seçkin Pirim in the US. Known for his neo-minimalistic sculptures, “Hypochondriac” presents the artist in a new avatar with a different style of work. Pirim combines his earlier methods of achieving symmetrical and precise optical effects with an exact opposite style: a spontaneous and uncalculated style of production. The artist explores his constant fear of serious illness with “Hypochondriac.” The exhibition features works that host parallel symmetrical and asymmetrical ideas. In some cases, two versions of same work are displayed representing opposite poles.

In his work “Bullet,” layered paper is located in two separate, physical pieces to form a single sculpture. The right piece has precise straight lines that chaotically curve as they transition to the left one. The work represents frenzy and serenity at the same moment.
